David Lipman
David Lipman, founding director of the National Library of Medicine's National Center for Biotechnology Computing, is leaving to become chief science officer of Impossible Foods, a startup looking to apply molecular biology to food science. Among his many accomplishments, Lipman oversaw the launches of PubMed (1997) and PubMedCentral (2000). He was an early advocate for making all National Institutes of Health-funded papers available for free via PubMed Central. James Ostell, chief of the Information Engineering Branch of NCBI, will take over as interim director on June 1, an NLM spokeswoman said.
