BloodCenter of Wisconsin Test for Bleeding Disorder

BloodCenter of Wisconsin has launched a new assay that it said will more accurately measure von Willebrand factor activity. It said that precise measurement of VWF platelet binding activity is critical for making an accurate diagnosis of von Willebrand disease in patients.

BloodCenter of Wisconsin noted that it is the first organization to make this test available in the US in a clinical laboratory setting.

Von Willebrand disease is the most common bleeding disorder affecting up to 1 percent of the US population. It is a genetic disorder caused by an alteration or deficiency of a blood-clotting protein called von Willebrand factor.
