Location: The candidate must be based in the FIND HQ offices in Switzerland (Geneva).
Despite unprecedented efforts deployed over the last decade to better control malaria, this disease remains a major cause of death and morbidity in many tropical and sub-tropical countries. More worrying is the recent observation that after years and years of improvement, global progress has stalled. The need for new tools and approaches has never been so strong. FIND is addressing it by supporting the development of improved diagnostics, based on current and new biomarkers, to ensure the prompt and effective diagnosis of all human-infecting Plasmodium species in symptomatic as well as asymptomatic individuals. This is essential to allow appropriate management of the patient during acute infection as well as radical cure. Integrating malaria diagnosis in a comprehensive approach addressing febrile illnesses in a syndromic manner is another challenge that FIND is taking up.
As the Scientific Officer, you will be based within the FIND Malaria & Fever team, and will work on cross-cutting projects with a focus on biomarker feasibility studies as well as clinical studies designed to evaluate the performance of new diagnostic tests for malaria or glucose 6 phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency.
S/he will report to the Malaria team Leader.
The Scientific Officer will work with the malaria team leader and the head of the program, as well as cross-functional teams within FIND to strengthen ongoing malaria-related projects.
The specific activities will include but not be limited to:
- Manage the evaluation and prioritization of new malaria biomarkers through reagents development projects and feasibility studies
- Collaborate with other members of the team on the development and implementation of clinical studies/trials to evaluate potential diagnostic tools
- Manage new product development projects
- Collaborate with other members of the team on the drafting external communication of results via oral or written communication.
