Job Description

We are looking for a Laboratory Scientist / Technician for our research lab in New Haven. Primary duties will include: sample processing, preparing solutions and buffers, nucleic acid extraction and synthesis, qRT-PCR analysis, data analysis including statistical tests, and preparing technical reports. More advanced candidates (PhD, postdoc) will also be responsible for experiment planning and design, assay optimization, writing study protocols, publication writing, and grant writing.

- Plan and conduct experiments to support continuous assay optimization and clinical validation
- Accurately perform and complete laboratory analysis on body fluids in accordance with laboratory protocols and policies
- Handle results in accordance with protocol, including generating the appropriate sample analysis reports for internal and external use
- Maintain detailed record of procedures, methods, data, and reports for quality checks and auditing by assigned supervisor(s)
- Keep record of and manage needs for laboratory equipment and resources (e.g., notebooks, reagents, pipettes, test tubes)
- Use technical knowledge and scientific understanding of the laboratory test in order to validate accuracy of results and conformity to specifications
- Resolve problems related to clinical issues, equipment, testing, and reports and/or escalate problems to management as appropriate
- Ensure appropriate storage, handling, and designation of samples according laboratory protocols and policies
- Be able to summarize results from experiments, determine implications, and suggest next steps for future experiment design
- Support the writing of publications, grants, and other scientific writing needs


- Doctoral, master’s, or bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
- Strong understanding of and experience in molecular biology
- Knowledge and technical proficiency in nucleic acid purification and qRT-PCR
- Ability to follow detailed protocols and achieve highly reproducible results
- Strong attention to detail, dedication to quality control, and impeccable record-keeping skills
- Familiarity with data analysis software (MS Excel, GraphPad Prism) and statistical analysis
- Self-motivated and able to work with minimal supervision as well as in a collaborative environment
- Ability to solve problems and troubleshoot independently
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements to ensure compliance of laboratory protocols and procedures
- Experience with SOPs and CLIA certification are a plus
