Job Description

Precision Oncology is a dedicated Oncology Research group focused on increasing success rates in early development by applying High Content Data and Analytics to inform both Research and early Development decisions. We work as the intregrated analytical arm of drug discovery teams and embrace a “Bedside to Bench and Back” approach to understand at the molecular level cancer subtypes, immune context, and drug response in patients. Molecular data (cytometric, single cell and spatial data) as well as advanced statistical and machine learning methods are used to identify targets, animals models for hypothesis testing, POC indications, and biomarkers to for advancing drug discovery programs.

Responsible for applying scientific expertise and judgement to initiate, design, direct and execute experiments and/or studies in support of research and/or development projects. Analyzes, interprets and presents results. Demonstrates continuous growth in depth and breadth of personal scientific knowledge and understanding of strategic goals of group, team and company. Works independently, pro-actively, is an impactful contributor and/or leader of project teams and transverse initiatives, and significantly advances R&D goals beyond group. Has a growing reputation in the external scientific community through high impact publications, productive scientific collaborations and active participation in conferences, among other activities. Individuals in this role may have direct reports, may serve as a Lab Head, Group Head or equivalent role, and may manage and provide career development for a group.

Key Responsibilities:

The Molecular Profiling Leader manages Sequencing and Cytometery teams in Cambridge as well as France. A successful candidate will have direct first experience in:

  • Next Generation Sequencing and Single-cell Seq platforms including REAP-seq.

  • Immuno-phenotyping with High content Flow-based cytometry.

  • Digital Spatial Profiling and assays for monitoring Antigen Specific T-cell expansion.

The Leader will advise project teams on the most appropriate strategies to address scientific questions.

  • Applications will include somatic mutation detection, RNA-seq, copy number variation assessment, working with FFPE tissue, circulating tumor DNA, etc. In addition, you will participate in external collaborations and lead interactions with sequencing service providers.

  • The Leader will work in close collaboration with Data Science and BioInformatics Leader and Data Scientists  to analyze sequencing / flow  / spatial data and extract hypotheses from datasets in support of projects across all stages of drug development.

  • The Leader will have responsibility laboratory including scheduling of activities, experimental strategy and design, and hands-on execution of projects.

  • You will also participate in the transition of novel findings to colleagues in assay development and clinical biomarker integration in order to translate new biomarkers into tools that drive clinical decisions.

  • An expanded role may be possible based on experience and motivation.

  • At least 10-years hands-on laboratory experience with special focus on Sequencing technologies including Illumina HiSeq, MiSeq, and Sanger platforms. Experience includes nucleic acid extraction, sample/library preparation, and data generation.

  • Working knowledge of Flow and Immuno-phenotyping approaches.

  • Knowledge of key oncogenic pathways and Immuno-Oncology mechanisms.

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills with a track record of managerial experience of research scientists.

  • Experience in molecular biology techniques including nucleic acid extraction and quantitation, enzymatic manipulation of DNA/RNA and PCR.

  • Experience applying sequencing technologies to pre-clinical oncology model systems and oncology clinical samples.

  • Working knowledge of data analysis methods and statistics, and ability to communicate effectively with bioinformatics and IT colleagues.

  • Experience developing new experimental applications and methods is a plus.
