Invitae is a rapidly growing genetic testing company driven by the mission to expand access to high-quality, comprehensive, low-cost genetic testing. To support this growth, Invitae is looking to add a business development role to join our biopharma partnerships team.  Invitae has over 90 programs with biopharma partners and we’re continuing to expand, including internationally.  This team member will be responsible for establishing and growing relationships with senior executives at potential partners, including pharmaceutical and biotech companies across US and global markets.  The role will provide strategic guidance on the growth trajectory of the biopharma partnerships team, will be responsible for finding and following up on new leads, drafting contracts, conducting negotiations, launch planning and will play a key part in defining Invitae’s offering to biopharma clients.  


  • Establishing and building client relationships with senior executives at pharmaceutical and biotech companies
  • Identifying and coordinating appropriate internal resources to support partnering discussions
  • Structuring and negotiating partnership agreements, including in cases where a creative and novel approach is required due to unique client needs
  • Drafting responses to RFPs, program proposals, and contracting
  • Conducting negotiations and completing the contracting process
  • Providing guidance on the strategic roadmap for the biopharma partnerships team
  • Managing relationships with existing clients and identifying opportunities to broaden our commercial offering
  • Collaborating closely with a variety of internal teams to coordinate appropriate resources to support partnering discussions
  • Translating observed client needs into product development priorities
  • Coordinating with our implementation team on the execution of projects




  • 10+ years of experience in relevant business roles, including business development or other roles in consultative selling with sophisticated biopharma partners
  • Fantastic team member with a willingness to identify and assume roles that drive the company’s success
  • Highly motivated individual with an ability to thrive in a non-structured, dynamic environment
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills to handle and execute on multiple high priority deals
  • Experience managing large pipelines with record of closing deals
  • Demonstrated track record of building and managing relationships with senior executives
  • Eagerness and capability to engage with medical professionals regarding the scientific, medical, commercial and technological aspects of genetics
  • Prior experience in the pharma industry and/or genetics is strongly preferred
  • Network of contacts in the biopharmaceutical industry is preferred
