Job Description

Phase Genomics is looking for a bioinformatician with excellent analytical skills to drive bioinformatics research projects across a variety of biological areas, including both genomic and metagenomic applications. Our bioinformatics team collaborates directly with our clients to identify and perform the right analyses to answer their scientific questions.

We are seeking an organized, talented bioinformatician with a proven track record in genome assembly, metagenomic assembly, biological data science, or related areas. The chosen candidate will be responsible for performing bioinformatics analyses using our broad computational toolset, particularly in the fields of chromosome-scale genome scaffolding and metagenomic assembly, using Hi-C and similar chromatin conformation data. They will also be responsible for developing new bioinformatic tools in these areas, participating in R&D discussions, and experimental planning with members of our wetlab team and other computational team members.

Every scientist and engineer on our team is given the opportunity for technical, architectural, and product-level ownership of their areas, and is expected to deliver world-class results. We value intelligence and the ability to learn, and our team is composed of people who are capable of owning a problem space top to bottom, yet who still collaborate to deliver great results as a team.

Phase Genomics’ computational team is currently fully remote, and remote candidates will be considered for this position. We are open to this position remaining remote after coronavirus mitigation procedures end.

  • Masters or PhD in Biology, Biochemistry, Genetics or similar scientific field, or equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years bioinformatics experience.
  • Proficiency with Python, R, and common bioinformatics tools (BWA, Samtools, etc.).
  • Highly organized, self-starting, and detail-oriented.
  • Demonstrated initiative and problem-solving abilities.
  • Experience with product management is a plus.
  • Comfort working in an early stage company, where flexibility and teamwork are a must.
  • Position is initially remote and with agreement of management may remain so indefinitely. Candidates in US-compatible time zones preferred.
