Overview

The clinical laboratory scientist II, data review is responsible for performing patient call review and following up on data trends for samples at a highly automated laboratory. This individual ensures efficient workflow within the laboratory and works independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

The clinical laboratory scientist II, data review is responsible for the following:

    • Reviewing and interpreting patient call review in the laboratory information management system (LIMS) prior to test report release
    • Identifying and investigating data trends
    • Using the LIMS to track requisition and specimen status to ensure prompt turnaround time of sample results
    • Maintaining stringent standards for quality, identifying any issues which might adversely impact the quality of test results, and immediately communicating these to the appropriate management representatives to ensure prompt resolution
    • Creating and/or updating laboratory standard operating procedures, as needed
    • Participating in quality assurance activities such as internal audits and inspection preparation
    • Maintaining updated understanding and knowledge of the methods used in the laboratory
    • Assisting the technical supervisor in method verification studies and validation studies of laboratory-developed tests, as needed
    • Working alongside and supporting other licensed clinical laboratory scientists in a CAP-accredited, CLIA-certified laboratory environment
    • Performing other duties as assigned by a supervisor



Qualifications and Experience

Candidates should possess:

    • A valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist license or Clinical Genetics Molecular Biology Scientist license issued by the State of California
    • A BS, BA, or MS in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution
    • At least two years of experience working in a high-complexity molecular clinical laboratory as a licensed staff member (preferred)
    • One year of pertinent laboratory experience and/or training covering the specialties of the laboratory (required)
    • Prior experience with polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-based and/or next-generation sequencing (NGS) methods and data analysis (preferred)


Skills

Candidates should possess:

    • The ability to make sound decisions and implement solutions in a timely manner
    • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyze and troubleshoot complex technical issues
    • A strong understanding of good laboratory practices and regulatory compliance
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills
    • Word processing and data management skills
