Job Description

Paragon Genomics is a fast-growing life sciences company developing and selling advanced reagents and assay kits for next-generation sequencing (NGS). We are seeking a Field and Technical Applications Manager who can lead our technical operations team with customer support and guidance, customer troubleshooting, and internal development investigations. The ideal candidate demonstrated capabilities in technical support leadership before. For that individual, this is a great opportunity with potential career growth in a multi-functional setting. This position reports to the Director of Commercial Operations and will interact closely with customers, and colleagues in manufacturing, business development, marketing, and R&D.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interface between R&D and sales by:
    • Acting as the technical lead during customer engagements throughout the sales cycle
    • Giving technical presentations on the Company’s technologies and products
    • Providing off-site training on product protocols to customers
    • Troubleshooting technical problems that customers experience
    • Working on customer projects internally and externally
  • Interface between R&D and marketing by:
    • Writing technical literature, such as whitepapers, tradeshow posters, user guides, product data sheets
    • Providing scientific feedback on marketing materials, such as brochures and presentations
    • Providing technical support to marketing or product managers during KOL (key opinion leader) development process
  • Support NGS workflow automation integration at customer sites and help customers with setting up experiments.
  • Provide high quality, effective training on our protocol and technical pre-and post-sales support to customers and prospective customers through knowledge of Paragon Genomics’ products.
  • Manage multiple customer-facing technical projects and act as a technical liaison between internal and external technical teams.
  • Understand customer challenges and priorities, competitive offerings, and market dynamics so that Company products and solutions are optimally positioned to meet customer needs.
  • Troubleshoot technical problems that customers experience, both independently and collaboratively, in consultation with the Technical Operations team and others at Paragon Genomics.
  • Actively participate in the development and support of strong relationships with all customers, including key customers.
  • Proactively build up the tech support process to support our growth including the establishment and implementation of a ticketing system.
  • Supervise and direct future field application specialists/tech support specialists which includes employee hiring, training, performance evaluations, directing, and coaching.
  • Additional duties as assigned.


Qualifications and Background

  • Four-year degree in a relevant field (e.g., Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry); Advanced degree (MS, Ph.D.) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on lab experience in molecular biology. Experience in single-cell sequencing, RNA sequencing, Illumina, and Ion Torrent sequencing preferred.
  • 5+ years of customer-facing support experience in the life science industry, and NGS targeted sequencing experience preferred.
  • Comprehensive technical knowledge and deep understanding of NGS workflow, data analysis, instruments, and reagent products, especially amplicon-based and/or hybrid capture-based target enrichment methods.
  • Automation and scripting experience on major liquid handlers such as Tecan, Hamilton, BioMek, is highly desired.
  • Ability to multi-task, perform under pressure, adapt to changes (e.g., priorities and timelines), and work in a fast-paced and quickly changing environment.
  • Detail-oriented and highly organized with effective time management skills.
  • Highly collaborative; able to work well within multidisciplinary teams.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites or conferences 20-30% post-pandemic.
