Job Description

Sema4 is a patient-centered health intelligence company dedicated to advancing healthcare through data-driven insights. Sema4 is transforming healthcare by applying AI and machine learning to multidimensional, longitudinal clinical and genomic data to build dynamic models of human health and defining optimal, individualized health trajectories. Centrellis®, our innovative health intelligence platform, is enabling us to generate a more complete understanding of disease and wellness and to provide science-driven solutions to the most pressing medical needs. Sema4 believes that patients should be treated as partners, and that data should be shared for the benefit of all.

Sema4 is seeking a talented, self-motivated Principal Investigator in the field of precision medicine or healthcare informatics to lead cutting-edge, multidisciplinary research collaboration programs with healthcare systems. The successful candidate will work closely with physicians and scientists at top healthcare systems in the US and lead scientific research leveraging Sema4’s heterogenous data sources and modeling expertise to gain insights that will improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases. The position requires experience in preparation, application, driving and administration of research grants or other sponsored projects, which lead to independent, high quality and reproducible results and high-impact publications. The candidate will report to the Senior VP of R&D and manage a team of supporting scientists.

RESPONSIBILITIES

·        Initiate, lead and optimize Sema4’s healthcare systems’ research collaboration portfolio

·        Develop and maintain key relationships with healthcare systems principal investigators

·        Provide scientific leadership and shape research directions

·        Lead analytics focused on answering a life sciences partner's specific research questions to assist decision making across a variety of use cases such as HEOR, drug discovery and biomarker research, and clinical development

·        Conceptualize, prepare, conduct, and administer research grants, cooperative agreements, or other sponsored projects.

·        Present research results and use case strategies to external clients and scientific community.

·        Publish research results in high-impact journals.

Requirements

·        M.D. or Ph.D. in a biology related discipline such as Oncology, Immunology, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Informatics, Computational Biology and Genomics. Specifically, training and experience in the following fields are strongly preferred:

o   Precision Medicine and Population Genomics (Germline): Elucidating the role of human genes in the pathology of human diseases, leading to the long-term goal of translating genomic findings into predictive medicine to improve healthcare. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, genetic association studies, statistical genetics, genetic epidemiology, isolation of disease genes, and functional genomics.

o   Precision Medicine and Population Genomics (Somatic): Employing genomics and multi-omics technologies as well as clinical data to understand cancer predisposition, and to map the course of disease progression in the clinical setting for informing the clinical decision-making process to improve treatment outcomes. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, cancer genomics, cancer immunology, and cancer microbiome.

o   Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence models of human diseases: Using Machine Learning to build models to predict adverse events, treatment response, hospitalizations and comorbidities from Real World Evidence as well as molecular data.

·        Proven track record of receiving research grants from government agencies or other sponsors.

·        Strong publication record and people management skills.

·        Passion for independent research, problem-solving, and a proven ability to develop and implement scientific ideas.
