Job Description

Paragon Genomics is a fast-growing life sciences company developing advanced reagents and assay kits for next-generation sequencing (NGS). We are seeking a Field/Technical Applications Scientist who can assist our Technical Operations team with application development and internal development investigations. This is a great opportunity with potential career growth in a multi-functional setting. This position reports to the Product and Applications Manager and will interact closely with customers, colleagues in manufacturing, business development, marketing, and R&D.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in both internal application development projects and external application support.
    • Independently take on application development projects for new applications or products.
      • Apply current technology and methods to new markets and processes.
      • Consider market trends to determine product specifications.
      • Work with customers or collaborators to determine customer requirements.
      • Internal troubleshooting and supporting R&D and product development efforts, conduct validation/verification studies, assay development & optimizations.
    • Support external application projects and customers.
      • Support customer’s experiments for custom panels and products based on each customer’s unique case.
      • Independently research and provide resolutions to customers’ questions and concerns, perform troubleshooting experiments, and custom product validations and verification.
      • Provide support or training for customers on-site as necessary.
      • Pre- and post-sales support.
  • Participate in generating manuscripts, technical notes, white papers.
  • Attend and represent the company at conferences and scientific meetings.
  • Assist other departments as necessary.

  • Qualifications and Background

  • Four-year degree in a relevant field (e.g. Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry); Advanced degree (MS, Ph.D.) preferred, but not required.
  • Minimum of 3 years of NGS or PCR-based assay development experience required.
  • Customer support experience is highly desirable.
  • Experience in single-cell sequencing, RNA sequencing, Illumina, and Ion Torrent sequencing highly desirable.
  • Good Emotional Intelligence (EQ): positive, focused, accountable, confident, and ego-free.
  • Leadership skills with a desire for career growth and advancement.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
