Genetic Science Division / Santa Clara, CA

How will you make an impact?
You will work on existing lab automation processes to improve throughput, reliability and cost as well as developing new processes on liquid handling instruments to facilitate genetic analysis using high density DNA microarrays. In collaboration with dedicated and created teams, your scalable and robust assay workflow solutions will enable our customers to achieve consistent and high performing data at high sample throughput. This will speed up research discoveries and decision making for human, plant, and animal testing applications.

What will you do?
• Work with the automation engineering team to design, develop, and build integrated laboratory automation solutions for improved usability and serviceability
• Evaluate new equipment, instruments or technology to implement into the production process or for commercial use
• Automate manual processes to put in place scalable solutions for sample processing workflows
• Design and perform experiments to characterize and optimize existing and new instruments and processes, such as liquid handling systems (Beckman, Hamilton)
• Plan and conduct verification and validation studies, write technical reports, and make technical presentations
• Write SOP’s and assist in preparation of user documentation
• Provide user training and respond to internal and external support inquiries for end-users, where applicable
• Comply with company quality management systems, policies and procedures

Requirements

How will you get here?
Education

BS or MS degree in Bioengineering, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or related technical discipline

Experience
• BS with 5+ years OR MS with 3+ years experience in the biotech field
• Experience writing methods for automated liquid handling instruments
• Hands on experience with scripting language such as VB Script or JAVA script
• Knowledge of integrating sample tracking and data management software is preferred
• Strong understanding of general molecular biology techniques

• Ability to apply analytical and innovative thinking to resolve complex assignments
• Results oriented and ability to multi-task
• Strong verbal communication and documentation skills
• Highly collaborative and ability to work within a diverse team
• Knowledge of principles of design of experiments and statistical analysis
• Excellent mechanical aptitude
