NEW YORK – Opko's BioReference Laboratories announced Tuesday a collaboration with the New York City Health and Hospitals Corporation to expand SARS-CoV-2 testing in the city.
The company committed to testing 5,000 patients per day, and the partnership aims to increase testing and provide faster results, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said. BioReference Executive Chairman Jon Cohen said the firm is prioritizing hospital patients suspected of SARS-CoV-2 infections.
NYC Health + Hospitals is the largest public healthcare system in the country and serves more than 1 million New Yorkers each year, the organization said.
Last week, BioReference announced a partnership with the New York State Department of Health to provide a drive-through testing facility in New Rochelle, New York, the epicenter of the state's COVID-19 epidemic.
The company also launched its Novel Coronavirus COVID-19 test, a real-time RT-PCR assay, last week.
