The Elisabeth Severance Prentiss Foundation gift will expand research into the use of saliva to monitor lithium levels in patients with bipolar and other disorders.

The collaboration will give the company access to UCI research in diagnostic platforms, life science applications, devices, and data analytics.

The award will go toward the development of MicrobeDx's technology for detecting the presence of bacteria in clinical urine specimens and to which antibiotics they are susceptible.

Researchers at Tufts and their collaborators recently demonstrated that the approach, which uses multiphoton microscopy, can distinguish between normal and cancerous skin.
