The pneumonia test will detect pathogen RNA in blood samples using Qiagen's newly launched clinical system.

The funding supports proof-of-concept studies of a direct-from-blood PCR test informed by RNA sequencing to detect pneumonia-causing bacteria.

The breathalyzer test contains an enzymatic reaction mixture that changes RNA to DNA, which can then be run through a traditional PCR instrument.
