KSL Beutner Laboratories Laminin 332 Assay

KSL Beutner Laboratories has launched an indirect immunofluorescence serum blood test in the US to identify laminin 332, an antigen associated with the autoimmune disease mucous membrane pemphigold (MMP). According to the Buffalo, New York-based firm, its laminin 332-specific serological assay reduces the time to confirmed diagnosis from as much as two years to 72 hours or less. The test received conditional approval from the New York State Department of Health in May, a spokesperson said.

About one-third of MMP patients are afflicted with the laminin 332 variant, KSL Beutner said, while BP180 is the other common autoantigen associated with the disease. Although blood tests to detect BP180 have been widely available since 2002, laminin 332 serum tests have not been approved in the US until now, the company said.
