Mawi DNA Technologies Inks Japanese Distribution Deal With Fujifilm

NEW YORK — Mawi DNA Technologies said on Monday that it has signed a distribution agreement for its iSWAB biosampling products in Japan with Fujifilm Wako Pure Chemical.

Under the terms of the deal, Fujifilm will be an authorized Japanese distributor of the iSWAB line including Mawi's iSWAB Microbiome-EL sample collection tubes, which can be used for PCR- and LAMP-based SARS-CoV-2 testing, in Japan. Additional terms were not disclosed.

Other iSWAB products include the iSWAB-DNA for the collection of long-fragment double-stranded DNA from buccal cells, as well as iSWAB-Microbiome for microbial content in gut, rectal, vaginal, skin, oral, or soil samples. Mawi also offers iSWAB kits for the collection of RNA, blood, animal DNA, and protein.

"We are confident that this initial partnership around our iSWAB-Microbiome-EL technology for extraction-less detection of SARS-CoV-2 RNA in patient samples will lead to additional opportunities for our entire portfolio of biosample collection products," Jerome David, Mawi VP of sales and marketing, said in a statement.

About a year ago, Hayward, California-based Mawi signed on Nucleus Biotech to distribute its iSWAB products in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.
