NEW YORK – Fulgent Genetics has announced a partnership with telehealth firm PWNHealth to provide oversight for a new line of genetic tests marketed to consumers.
Fulgent today launched Picture Genetics, a trio of at-home genetic tests for consumers. PWNHealth will provide physician review and genetic counseling for these tests.
Financial and other terms of the partnership were not disclosed.
"We are very excited about the launch of Picture Genetics, our consumer-initiated test offering, which enables us to deliver our advanced genetic testing capabilities to a much broader audience in an accessible manner," Fulgent CEO Ming Hsieh said in a statement. "We believe our line of tests offers one of the most comprehensive at-home screening options available in the market, given the inclusion of genetic counseling as well as involvement from independent physicians."
Based in Temple City, California, Fulgent offers a large catalog of clinical genetic tests performed with next-generation sequencing technology.
Picture Parenting, a carrier screening test priced at $295, is the only test in the new line that is immediately available. Picture Newborn and Picture Wellness, tests for health risks based on genetic markers, "will be available in the coming months," Fulgent said in a statement.
Fulgent said the tests are completed at home, "without the need for a doctor visit or insurance," and will provide "medically actionable, clinical-level results with professional medical follow-up."
In August, Fulgent received approval from the New York State Department of Health to offer its next-generation sequencing tests in the state.
