NEW YORK (360Dx) — Sysmex America has signed an agreement to become the exclusive distributor of Advanced Instruments' GloCyte automated cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) cell counter system in the US, Canada, and Latin America.
Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The system, which received US Food and Drug Administration 510(k) clearance in 2016, combines fluorescence, microscopy, and digital image analysis, along with highly specific reagents and an intelligent counting algorithm, to provide precise, reliable, timely, and linear counts down to zero for red blood cell and total nucleated cell in CSF.
Sysmex noted that prior to the GloCyte system, counting red blood cells and total nucleated cells was done on a Neubauer Hemocytometer counting chamber, a labor-intensive method that requires a specialized lab staff.
"The addition of GloCyte makes our portfolio of diagnostic analyzers even more versatile, scalable, and customizable," Sysmex COO Andy Hay said in a statement. "For laboratories testing CSF, adding GloCyte is a solution that provides accurate cell counts at clinically relevant low levels, while offering maximum efficiency and minimum workflow disruption."
