The company's new QuantStudio 5 Dx Real-Time PCR system allows users to wield multi-modal software to detect pathogens.

The deal includes mainly Siemens' customer's sales and distribution contracts, the installed instrument base, and relevant intellectual property.

Alere is divesting Epocal as it seeks regulatory approval of its merger with Abbott. Based in Ottawa, Ontario, Epocal develops point-of-care blood diagnostic systems. 

The commercial future of the test is uncertain, but one of its developers said that work to develop it demonstrates even mature technologies can have new clinical value. 

Under the terms of the deal, Siemens will expand its kPCR Molecular System menu to include Fast-track's range of tests covering several medical conditions. 

The agency cleared a handful of assays last month for the detection and diagnoses of toxoplasmosis, syphilis, sepsis, thyroid conditions, and other ailments. 

Siemens Healthineers has entered into an exclusive arrangement with health IT company Relaymed, which specializes in cloud-based point-of-care device connectivity services.

The funding will go toward the development of an immunoassay that would detect IgM antibodies specific to the Zika virus. 

The firm said the assay provides flexible automation and accurately identifies all six HCV genotypes as well as subtypes 1a and 1b.
