Roche to Acquire Lab Business Analytics Firm Viewics

NEW YORK (360Dx) – Roche today said it is acquiring Viewics, a privately held laboratory business analytics company.

Financial and other terms of the deal, which is expected to close on Nov. 21, were not disclosed.

Roche said that the acquisition of Viewics will expand its position in the integrated core lab space with business analytics capabilities, and will enable labs to make faster, data-driven, and informed decisions on their operations and processes.

Viewics' laboratory business analytics solution allows for efficient integration of big data from a variety of IT systems in the lab and elsewhere, pioneering a new way in extracting, cleansing, transforming, and augmenting data, Roche said. Viewics' cloud-based solution is secure, infrastructure-agnostic, interactive, and accessible from multiple devices, including smart phones, tablets, and desktop computers.

Roche further noted that Viewics' solution resolves many of the routine problems that laboratory IT staff members encounter when they are using generic business intelligence solutions, traditional data warehousing, or extraction methodologies.

Roche Diagnostics CEO Roland Diggelmann said in a statement that the acquisition will help the company to support customers around the world in improving their lab performance and processes. "The Viewics solution offers our customers insights at their fingertips, uncovering potential value and profitability drivers in lab operations, and indicators to improve overall quality of care,” he noted.

Viewics CEO Keith Laughman added that the platform "generates insights that can inform real-time decisions about costs, laboratory performance, and many other areas affecting today’s modern healthcare organizations."
