Quest Diagnostics Enters Collaboration With Sentara Health Plans

NEW YORK – Quest Diagnostics and Sentara Health Plans said Wednesday that they have entered into a multiyear strategic collaboration.

Under the agreement, Quest will, at the beginning of 2025, become the exclusive independent national laboratory provider of clinical laboratory and anatomic pathology services for Sentara members in Florida and Virginia.

The parties will also expand Quest's patient service center network in certain geographies and will work to redirect member testing to Quest from higher-cost, out-of-network providers.

Financial and other terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Sentara is an integrated, nonprofit healthcare system with 12 hospitals in Virginia and North Carolina. Its Sentara Health Plans division cover more than 1 million members in Virginia and Florida.

"Sentara Health Plans' strategic relationship with Quest promises to provide our Florida and Virginia members with innovative and comprehensive laboratory services," Colin Drozdowski, executive VP of Sentara and president of Sentara Health Plans, said in a statement.

"Health plans like Sentara value Quest as a strategic collaborator that can help them reduce healthcare costs while simultaneously enhancing access, innovation, and quality," Leah Timmerman, senior VP of health plans at Quest, said in a statement. "We look forward to helping Sentara Health Plans improve access and affordability for its members as we extend into parts of the southeastern US, particularly Virginia, where our presence has been limited."
