NEW YORK – Quest Diagnostics said on Monday it has acquired select assets of Steward Health Care System's outreach laboratory services business in Pennsylvania and Ohio for an undisclosed amount.
Additionally, Quest acquired certain assets from Steward's lab business serving Hawthorn Medical Associates in Dartmouth, Massachusetts.
Secaucus, New Jersey-based Quest said it has a longstanding relationship with Steward, including the provision of lab management services and the acquisition of outreach lab assets.
"This acquisition … aligns with our strategy to grow through accretive outreach laboratory acquisitions and expands our ability to serve providers and patients in Ohio and Pennsylvania," Quest Chairman, CEO, and President Jim Davis said in a statement.
The deal is the latest as the clinical lab industry, in general, consolidates. A year ago, Quest purchased parts of NewYork-Presbyterian's lab services business.
Based in Dallas, Steward operates 33 hospitals in Arizona, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Texas.
