NEW YORK (360Dx) – Laboratory Corporation of America and Walgreens announced Wednesday plans to expand their collaboration to include 600 LabCorp patient services centers in Walgreens stores over the next four years, inclusive of the locations that are already open.
There are currently 17 LabCorp at Walgreens locations open in Florida, Colorado, North Carolina, and Deerfield, Illinois. The companies first announced their collaboration in June of 2017.
LabCorp at Walgreens offer specimen collection for a broad range of laboratory testing. The patient service centers are located near the pharmacy area inside Walgreens stores though the specimens are sent to LabCorp's regional and specialty laboratories for testing.
Appointments at the patient service centers can be made online through LabCorp's website, as well as through LabCorp's app. The centers also include the LabCorp Express tablet-based system for expedited check-in.
In addition to the expansion to more service centers, the two companies announced that they plan to pursue other collaborative opportunities, including exploring novel approaches to clinical research, and helping consumers take a greater role in their own health and well-being, enabling the ongoing transition to value-based care, and expanding health-related services available at the patient service centers.
The two companies said the centers that have opened so far have received positive feedback from consumers and healthcare providers.
"LabCorp's strong partnership on this joint initiative, coupled with the enthusiastic consumer feedback we've received, allows us to undertake an exciting expansion of our collaboration together," said Stefano Pessina, executive vice chairman and CEO of Walgreens Boots Alliance, in a statement.
LabCorp Chairman and CEO David King called the collaboration an important part of the company's consumer-focused strategy.
"LabCorp at Walgreens is a central piece of our expanding consumer strategy as we continue to create new channels for our offering by meeting consumers where they want to be met, extending the reach of our mission to improve health an improve lives," he said, in a statement.
