NEW YORK (360Dx) – Aurora Diagnostics announced on Monday that is has acquired Cascade Pathology Services, a physician-owned multispecialty pathology practice providing surgical pathology services to hospitals and physician groups in the Portland, Oregon area.
The deal also included the simultaneous acquisition of Cascade Cytology Reference Laboratories, an affiliated lab providing cytology support services to physician groups. Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The acquisition of Cascade Pathology adds to Aurora Diagnostics' presence in the Pacific Northwest, where the company also acquired Salem, Oregon-based Pacific Pathology Associates in 2016.
Cascade Pathology brings the number of Aurora Diagnostics' practices to 32. Last year the company acquired five independent pathology practices and vowed to continue to pursue a "fairly aggressive" acquisition strategy in 2018.
Juan Millan, managing director of Cascade Pathology, said that joining Aurora Diagnostics was a good fit for the practice because of Aurora Diagnostics' focus on community-based pathology.
"Aurora is known for bringing together and supporting high quality pathology practices that maintain strong community relationships and provide excellent services to clients," Millan said, adding that Aurora Diagnostics would offer support services including information technology, payor relations, human resources, clinical research, sales and marketing, and procurement.
In addition to acquiring independent labs, Aurora Diagnostics also provides hospital lab management services to more than 200 community hospitals and surgery centers. The company's Aurora Research Institute subsidiary provides pathology consultation, customized laboratory services, and access to ethically collected human biomaterials to the research community.
