NEW YORK (360Dx) – The US Army recently announced a contract for almost $11.3 million to Abbott to develop a traumatic brain injury assay.
One bid was solicited and received, the Army said, adding that the estimated completion date for the contract is Oct. 23, 2019. An amount of $2.5 million was obligated at the time of the award.
Development of the assay will be done at Abbott's facility in Princeton, New Jersey.
Abbott and the US Department of Defense had already been collaborating to develop portable blood tests for evaluating potential concussions. As part of a multiphased approach, the tests are being designed to run on Abbott's i-STAT, which is already being used for non-TBI point-of-care testing among military service members.
