UK Seeks to Advance Digital Pathology, Medical Imaging With £50M in Funding

NEW YORK (360Dx) – The UK on Wednesday announced the availability of £50 million ($66.6 million) to create a network of centers to advance digital pathology and medical imaging.

The funding will be directed at the creation of six centers specializing in digital pathology, medical imaging, or both, working together through a framework agreement. The effort "will help to advance the digitization of these important areas of diagnosis, increase the efficiency and quality of the review process, and get new precision treatments to patients earlier," Innovate UK said in a statement. UK Research and Innovation is providing the funding, while Innovate UK will deliver it. The competition is part of the Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund.

Applications should focus on adding value to existing process using digital systems, enhanced analytics, and artificial intelligence, and should address issues currently faced by the healthcare sector, including standardization, data sharing and interoperability, regulation, and scale-up, Innovate UK said.

The deadline for applying is midday Aug. 1.
