Quest Diagnostics Laying off 121 Employees at Pennsylvania Drug Testing Facility

NEW YORK – Quest Diagnostics is laying off 121 employees from its Norristown, Pennsylvania, Employer Solutions laboratory, according to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification notice the company filed in June with the state.

According to a Quest spokesperson, the layoffs are part of a move to consolidate the company's workforce drug testing at its Lenexa, Kansas, facility. Quest will continue to operate other existing services out of the Norristown facility, including its rapid response laboratory, pathology, and IT.

The Norristown facility performed urine drug testing while the Lenexa facility performs urine, hair, and oral fluid drug testing. According to Quest, employers are increasingly preferring oral fluid and hair testing over urine testing in their employee drug screening programs, and the consolidation reflects this trend.

The layoffs are expected to begin Aug. 16 and be completed by the end of the year.
