NEW YORK – Quanterix said Tuesday that it is acquiring Georgetown, Texas-based magnetic bead manufacturing firm Emission for up to $70 million.
In a statement, Quanterix CEO Masoud Toloue said the acquisition will help the company develop high-multiplex and multiomic capabilities and noted that Quanterix has validated Emission's bead technology for use in its forthcoming Simoa platform.
He added that the acquisition will allow Quanterix to provide OEM beads to non-Quanterix platforms.
Emission makes dye-encapsulating magnetic beads designed for low- and mid-plex assays as well as a mid-plex instrument platform that reads those beads.
Quanterix will acquire Emission for $10 million in cash, an additional $10 million tied to certain technical milestones, and up to another $50 million contingent upon certain performance milestones.
The transaction is expected to close in January 2025 and to be accretive to revenue and gross margins in 2026.
