PerkinElmer Reorganizes, Creates Standalone Diagnostics Business

NEW YORK (GenomeWeb) – PerkinElmer announced today that it has reorganized its corporate structure in order to better position itself to grow in certain markets and better serve customers.

The company's diagnostics business will now be a standalone business segment, focused on reproductive health, diagnostics for emerging markets, and applied genomics, and will serve clinically oriented customers in regulated markets, PerkinElmer said. It will be led by Prahlad Singh, senior vice president and president of diagnostics.

The company also will combine its environmental health and life science solutions businesses into one unit to be renamed Discovery & Analytical Solutions. This unit will be focused on applications-oriented customers in the food, environmental, industrial, and life sciences markets, and will be led by Executive Vice President and President of Discovery & Analytical Solutions Jim Corbett.

All changes will go into effect on Oct. 3, PerkinElmer said.

In a separate filing with the US Securities and Exchange Commission, the company also announced that Jonathan DiVincenzo, senior vice president and president of the current environmental health division, will no longer work for PerkinElmer, effective Sept. 30.

"We are excited about taking the next step in our strategic evolution to drive increasing profitable growth and advance our mission of innovating for a healthier world," said PerkinElmer Chairman and CEO Robert Friel said in a statement. "These organizational changes will accelerate our application and technology development efforts for the benefit of PerkinElmer's customers as we expand our capabilities to provide more integrated solutions that address critical needs around the globe."

PerkinElmer's shares were down a fraction of 1 percent at $55.52 in morning trading on the New York Stock Exchange.
