NEW YORK – UK-based lateral flow testing firm Highfield Diagnostics announced on Tuesday that it has signed an agreement with German liquid handling firm Scienion to mass produce and manufacture Highfield's lateral flow tests.
The memorandum of understanding lays out the framework for the collaboration, where Scienion will finalize equipment designs and manufacturing processes for high-throughput production of Highfield's flowDx lateral flow assays. The flowDx technology, developed at the University of Southampton, controls fluidic flow in lateral flow tests to allow for parallel multiplexing, better accuracy, and semi-quantitative results, Highfield said in a statement.
The firm believes it will be able to manufacture the tests for less than one penny per test while maintaining its existing manufacturing speeds with Scienion's help, according to a statement from Robert Eason, director of Highfield Diagnostics.
"Scienion is a world-leading manufacturer for [lateral flow test] equipment with their ability for precision dispensing, and this is exactly what we require for the large-scale manufacture of our bespoke devices," Collin Sones, chief technology officer of Highfield Diagnostics, said in a statement.
