GeneDx Shares Climb as Firm Kicks off Epic EHR Integration

NEW YORK – Shares of GeneDx jumped almost 12 percent on Monday after the company announced the integration of its tests with Epic Systems' electronic health record software.

After the integration, clinicians can use Epic's Aura specialty diagnostics suite to order all of GeneDx’s tests — including exome sequencing, whole-genome sequencing, and rapid whole-genome sequencing — and send results.

The integration appears to be an expansion of a previously announced collaboration between GeneDx and Epic to integrate rapid whole-genome sequencing tests for neonatal intensive care units with Epic's Aura specialty diagnostics suite.

At launch, North Carolina's UNC Health is the first health system to integrate with GeneDx through Aura, the company said, with additional institutions to follow. The Epic integration aims to enable healthcare providers to "more accurately and efficiently diagnose genetic conditions and guide timely, targeted treatments," the company noted.

"The Epic Aura integration for genetic testing offers significant advantages for both patients and providers," Michael Adams, a pediatric geneticist at UNC Health, said in a statement. "It streamlines the implementation process and enhances the clarity and accessibility of results within the electronic health record."

Besides GeneDx, several other diagnostics firms have signed deals to integrate genetic testing results into Epic's EHR, including Myriad Genetics, Guardant Health, Invitae, and Adaptive Biotechnologies.

In Monday afternoon trading on the Nasdaq, shares of GeneDx were up 12 percent at $66.67.
