NEW YORK – GeneDx said Monday that it is collaborating with electronic health record software firm Epic Systems on rapid whole-genome sequencing services for patients in neonatal intensive care units.
Under the terms of the deal, GeneDx will integrate rWGS results with Epic's Aura specialty diagnostics suite. It will connect directly with health systems that use Epic's software to receive orders and send results.
Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Verona, Wisconsin-based Epic holds approximately one-third of the US market for electronic health records, with approximately 60 percent of the academic medical centers, according to KLAS Research. Last year, Epic said it saw the first EHR-to-EHR exchange of structured genomic data.
GeneDx joins several other diagnostics firms who have signed deals to integrate genetic testing results into Epic's EHR, including Myriad Genetics, Guardant Health, Invitae, and Adaptive Biotechnologies.
In a statement, GeneDx said it has seen an 80 percent year-over-year increase in its rapid genome testing business.
