NEW YORK – Eurofins Scientific announced Wednesday that it acquired kidney dialysis testing lab Ascend Clinical.
The deal, the financial terms of which were not disclosed, broadens Eurofins' presence in the transplant testing and renal care space, while granting Ascend access to Eurofins' laboratory network, analytical portfolio, and established industry relationships.
Sunnyvale, California-based Ascend Clinical provides automated chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and virology testing services to dialysis clinics and hospitals across the US, as well as water and dialysate testing.
Ascend's existing leadership will stay in place, with Patti Hunsader, the firm's current chief operating officer, assuming the role of president.
"This transaction further extends our efforts to provide best-in-class testing care to patients in the renal and transplantation fields," Eurofins CEO Gilles Martin said in a statement. "We look forward to providing Ascend's clients with access to the capabilities of the Eurofins network, and to support Ascend in strengthening and growing the important services they provide to patients."
Eurofins has been growing through acquisition over the past few years. In 2021, it acquired Japanese molecular testing provider Genetic Lab, as well as at-home DNA testing products provider DNA Diagnostics Center. Eurofins also acquired Vietnamese genetic testing firm Gentis.
