BioMérieux Opens $100M Center for Molecular Diagnostics in Salt Lake City

NEW YORK (360Dx) – BioMérieux said Thursday that BioFire Diagnostics, its molecular diagnostics affiliate, has opened a new 285,000 square-foot facility in Salt Lake City dedicated to the development of FilmArray, its PCR-based multiplex system for the syndromic diagnosis of infectious diseases.

The new Alain Mérieux Center for Molecular Diagnostics represents a nearly $100 million investment and is home to more than 1,000 employees, BioMérieux said.

BioMérieux CEO Alexandre Mérieux said in a statement that the building and the firm's investment in syndromic testing illustrates "the proven success" of the FilmArray technology, and the company's "commitment to sustain its development for the long term."

He said that when it acquired BioFire Diagnostics in 2014, BioMérieux took note of the potential for its diagnostic solution to improve public health, and how its product portfolio complemented that of the parent company to fight infectious diseases.

BioFire Diagnostics CEO Randy Rasmussen said, "This new state-of-the-art facility enables us to expand our capabilities and better serve the healthcare industry for the benefit of the patients."
