NEW YORK (360Dx) – Beckman Coulter Diagnostics today announced a collaboration with the University of California, Irvine to "identify innovative solutions to unmet clinical needs."
The collaboration will give the company access to UCI research in diagnostic platforms, life science applications, devices, and data analytics. According to Beckman Coulter, UCI faculty, students, and entrepreneurs will benefit from the company's expertise in commercializing technologies.
Beckman Coulter will fund proof-of-product grants to bridge the gap between the lab and early commercialization for UCI innovations. Through the grants, the firm will identify a specific focus area for university entrepreneurial teams, it said. The firm will also seek UCI graduate students to enter its competitive talent onboarding program, through which the students will be able to work across different Beckman Coulter divisions.
"We believe this type of academic-industry partnership can lead to development of innovative diagnostic techniques to improve healthcare," Beckman Coulter Diagnostics Vice President of Strategy and Innovation Fiona Adair said in a statement. She added that the firm will establish an office at the Cove at UCI Applied Innovation to collaborate with academic units and to integrate into the "innovation ecosystem."
The Cove is a 4,000-square-foot facility at UCI established to connect potential partners and accelerate collaboration.
