NEW YORK (360Dx) – ARUP Laboratories and Illumicare on Friday announced a collaboration to aimed at value-based care.
The collaboration will provide physicians with Illumicare's Smart Ribbon, a "nonintrusive ribbon of information" that hovers over or embeds within electronic medical records and provides "real-time visibility of the cumulative risk and financial impact of tests and medications being ordered during the course of care." The firms said that studies have demonstrated that displaying cost and the risk of patient harm at the point of care results in safer and more efficient care from doctors.
"ARUP has long been an advocate of empowering clinicians with current testing knowledge and providing unparalleled guidance through ARUP's utilization management services," ARUP Medical Director of Consultative Services Andrew Fletcher said in a statement. "We are excited to share the research and expertise of our 90+ medical directors."
"This partnership allows us to bring the expertise and best practice recommendations of a leading national reference laboratory to physicians at the point of care," Illumicare CEO G.T. LaBorde said. "The Smart Ribbon, with ARUP, provides valuable content for informed decision-making, helping to reduce clinical and cost variation during the treatment of care."
Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
