NEW YORK – Abbott announced today it has signed a deal to supply its Alinity s System to the Australian Red Cross Blood Service for blood and plasma screening.
Financial and other terms of the deal were not disclosed.
This agreement extends Abbott's 30-year partnership with the Australian Blood Service, Abbott Park, Illinois-based Abbott said in a statement. The organization will also use Abbott's lab automation solution and its AlinIQ Analyzer Management system to combine data from multiple analyzers, allowing staff to view it in one place.
The Alinity s system can continuously process up to 600 tests per hour, and the lab automation solution will help staff handle 3,600 samples per hour, Abbott said. The US Food and Drug Administration approved the platform for screening in US blood and plasma centers in July.
Each year, the Australian Blood Service collects 1.5 million donations and provides a safe blood supply to 25 million Australians.
